Certain grants ended. Our grant funding fell over 50 percent.

We have relied on grants for too much of what we do. When one ends we feel it immediately, and that is not a sustainable way to run an agency. It is exactly the position we are in now.

We need to become healthy as an organization.

Each one budgeted, staffed and reported on its own, with nobody responsible for moving a client between them.

How it will work: partnered, not siloed

Psychiatry and Clinical work side by side, sharing clients and coordinating care. Neither one sits inside the other.

Overhead and admin

Overhead and admin sit outside because they do not touch clients.

We would do this even if money were not a problem. Right now a psychiatry patient who also needs therapy is handed between two departments that budget and report separately, and no one person owns whether that handoff happens. Side by side means somebody does.

What happens next

Ninety days. December 1st is the date.

What has to be true by then

  • The monthly gap is closed or close to it.
  • Psychiatry and therapy are running the new way.
  • Everyone is following the new processes.

  • If you have a better idea, bring it.
  • If something is broken, help us fix it.

The future

Sustainable first, then we scale.

  • Improve what we already runSeveral of our programs can cover their costs and do not yet. Those get fixed before we add anything.
  • Add only what passes both testsThe community needs it, and it can pay for itself. Both, every time.
  • Then we scaleMore capacity across the five counties, paid for by the work itself.

The people in these five counties need us. We owe it to them to make this sustainable, so we can serve them the way we all know they deserve.
